Hello! Welcome to LondonRingways.co.uk.

This website is designed to accompany the pages describing the Ringways at Roads.org.uk. Those pages go into detail about each road that made up the Ringways, a network of urban motorways planned for London, and show the routes and layouts of each one. This website is a deeper dive into some of the background information.

Even though the main Ringways pages are long and detailed in their accounts of each route, they still only have space to cover the most important and interesting information about each route. Far more information has been researched than ever made it online there, so this website now exists as a repository of all that additional background detail.

You’ll find write-ups of extra background stories about various routes, deeper-level discussion of the administrative and engineering decisions that surrounded the creation and destruction of the Ringways plan, and some behind-the-scenes insight for the serious Ringways fan into how each route was researched and how its story came together.

What’s here right now, of course, is much less than that, because we’ve only just begun. But over time, this will turn into a treasure chest of extreme geekery for serious road fans to explore the most fascinating thing never to happen to the UK road network.

What’s new?

This site is a work in progress and probably always will be. Here’s the most recently updated pages.
